The company was established by Dr. Y.P. Ranade (1935-2001)
in the year 1968.
He started his career in defense services. His keen interest
in the business of education led him to take early retirement
and start his own publishing house to provide textbooks and children's
books for schools. He specialized in the production of books in
different local dialects of various regions. His contribution
to educational publishing has been acknowledged with several awards.
His business styled as SCHOLAR / SCHOLAR PUBLISHING HOUSE
(P) LIMITED has been widely acclaimed as a publisher of repute
right from its inception. Gradually, this business house started
producing books for secondary and senior secondary students to
guide the future generation of the country in the best possible
manner. His main desire was that the books should be authored
by eminent intellectuals and produced in the best possible manner.
This way he has contributed immensely to the promotion of quality
publishing and book culture in India. The SCHOLAR publishes
books in many languages i.e. English, Hindi, Punjabi, Bengali,
Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Mizo, Hmar, Kuki, Manipuri and Assamese.
A number of textbooks have been prescribed by the different State
Governments as Text Books and have been awarded for meritorious
publication.
By sheer dint of his untiring and selfless service, he has been
instrumental in establishing the organization called 'Federation
of Educational Publishers in India (FEPI)' of which he was Secretary
General and President for many years. It was through his able
leadership and effective functioning that the FEPI become the
umbrella organisation of all the prominent educational publishers
of India. FEPI became instrumental in coordinating their activities
in a cohesive and effective manner.
He successfully organized many Book Exhibitions and Book Fairs
in collaboration with the other Federation of Educational Publishers
of the country. Widely traveled as he was, it had been his constant
desire to bring India's Publishing Trade on an equal footing with
the world book market.
He had an accomplished career which included the following honours:
- Chairman of Transport, Telephone, Railway & Postal -The
Federation of India Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI)
1984-1986.
- Vice President in The federation of Publishers Book Sellers
Association in India (FPBA) 1985-1986.
- Secretary General -The Federation of Educational Publishers
in India (FEPI)1987-1992
- President -The Federation of Educational Publishers in India
(FEPI)1992-1995
- Executive Member -Afro-Asian Book Council of India since 1992
onwards.
- Chairman -Central Academy International Education Society
1998.
- President -The Federation of Educational Publishers in India
(FEPI) 2000 onwards.
The noble soul in his pursuit of upgrading knowledge was martyred
in Manipur (India) where he was undertaking a tour to promote
Education.
His establishment as well as heirs are dedicated to carry on
the unfinished noble work of Dr. Ranade and are committed
to the motto "Upwards and Onwards". He brought
in the concept of charitable education in the north-eastern states
of India which were besotted with poverty and insecurity then;
brining hope and direction through his leadership in this field,
setting an example of himself in the process of achieving his
educational goals.
